Summary of the Business session from the 119th Annual Congress
The 119th Annual Congress for the NSSAR is complete. This years conference was held in Atlanta, GA at the start of July. NSSAR Executive Joe Harris, provided the following summary of the business session.
The business session of the 119th Congress concluded with the following decisions:
*National dues will increase from $25 to $30 effective January 1, 2010 for Regular Members.
*National dues will increase from $5 to $10 effective January 1, 2010 for Junior Members.
*New Membership Application (processing) fee will increase from $60 to $80 effective January 1, 2010.
Executive Committee issues were numerous but of those discussed, the following were particularly important to the general membership:
*EXCOM, Friday, July 3, 2009. Motion by Larry McKinley and seconded by Frank Appl. "I move that as part of the process of retooling our website and communication links, we will suspend SAR-TALK. SAR-TALK method of operation will be examined in light of our larger member communication efforts. As an interim step the information technology committee will implement changes to SAR-TALK." PASSED
*EXCOM, Thursday, July 9, 2009. Motion by Bob Bowen and seconded by Larry McClanahan. "I move that the current National Life Membership Program be temporarily suspended effective Thursday, July 9, 2009 (or postmarked mail on that date), that a committee be formed with intent to develop a new program, and new program be presented to the Trustees at the Fall 2009 meeting." PASSED
New General Officers, Vice-Presidents General and members of the Executive Committee are posted on the NSSAR Website.
It is anticipated that all committee appointments will be posted on the NSSAR Website in the next several weeks.
OFFICER-TALK network is being updated as a result of recent changes at both State Society and National Society levels.
