Report from the NSSAR Atlantic Middle States(AMS) Conference, August 8-9 2008

Report from the NSSAR Atlantic Middle States(AMS) Conference, August 8-9 2008

The Atlantic Middle States (AMS) Conference was held in Princeton, NJ, hosted by the NJ Society, and attended by 62 Compatriots and 40 guests.  This annual meeting is hosted by each of the seven state societies in alphabetical order, and presided over by the two VPG's in alternating years; this year by Mid-Atlantic VPG Gary Bond(DC Society)  This meeting is also used as a venue for an NSSAR Executive Meeting so most national officers attend every year.

Candidates for national offices attend to seek AMS endorsements for 2009-2010, for the elections at the next Annual Congress.  The onlyMDSSAR Members and Guests attend the AMS meeting, August 2008 contested officer position so far is Treasurer General, with candidates J. David Sympson(KY),  Larry T. Guzy(GA),  Timothy R. Bennett(DC) and Larry T. Magerkurth(CA).  David Sympson received the AMS endorsement by secret vote.

It is noteworthy that PASSAR FP Miles K. Dechant  announced as candidate for Librarian General, and received the AMS endorsement.  Present LG Richard Brockway(WVA) has withdrawn for re-election because of his wife's serious health condition.

There were seven PASSAR Compatriots attending, and FP Richard L. Ashman will be the Mid Atlantic VPG for 2009-2010 beginning next July.  PASSAR will host this meeting on August 6-7, 2010, with sentiment to have it in Philadelphia.  Next year the NY Society is to be host society- on August 7-8, 2009.

The NJ Society hosted a most elegant AMS Conference, with social events, a ladies program, a tour of NJ Revolutionary War battlefields and sites, and the black tie banquet featuring PG David Appleby, a Color Guard contingent and outstanding flag exhibits.  There are lots of details to organize this event well and have it enjoyable for those who attend. This was enjoyable this year.
