MDSSAR Color Guard Opens the American Pharmacists Association Annual Meeting and Exposition (APhA2010)
American Pharmacists Association Annual Meeting and Exposition (APhA2010) was held at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, DC, March 12-15. Thousands of the nation's leading pharmacists assembled at APhA2010 to shape the future of pharmacy, enhance their professional knowledge, view the latest products and services, and network with their peers. The Maryland Society Color Guard helped to begin the meeting by presenting the colors at the Opening General Session on Saturday, March 13th. With an excess of 3,000 pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and industry partners on attendance at the session, the color guard “did us proud in spreading the message of the Sons of the American Revolution” according to one of the meeting coordinators and past president of the MDSSAR, CAPT R.D. Tackitt, USN (Ret).
As the colors were presented, Lt Col Donnamaria Jones, USAF BSC, Pharmacy Flight Commander, Malcolm Grow Medical Center, at the Andrews Air Force facility sang the National Anthem beneath a back drop of photos depicting federal pharmacists serving in harms way in various parts of the country.
Following the presentation of the colors, the team lead the participants into the exhibit hall and provided several fife and drum tunes. In addition many of the pharmacists and students requested photos of them with the color guard with many questions being asked about the Sons of the American Revolution.
