It combines the men and women and their associated flags of many active and reserve component military units, veterans’ organizations, civic and patriotic and lineage organizations in addition to the MDSSAR Color Guard.

The Red coats came to Jerusalem Mill and so did many units of the Continental line. Sutlers where there to sell their wares and others were there to enjoy the pageantry. There were between 200 and 300 participants, and there was one tent with many displays and handouts by descendants of the American Revolution; yes the MDSSAR was there. Red Coats, Continental Linemen, Sutlers and event visitors came by to talk with us, to look at the displays and hopefully left with a little more knowledge of the Revolutionary War Period and the SAR.

Unveiling of New Treaty of Paris Painting by David Wagner
5 September, 2008 - 17:32 — webmasterUnveiling of the painting by David R. Wagner of the Treaty of Paris on its 225th Anniversary
Today members of the MDSSAR attended the unveiling of the painting by David R. Wagner of the Treaty of Paris on its 225th Anniversary. The Wagner painting completes an unfinished painting by Benjamin West. This depiction of the signing of the treaty between America and Great Britain by American Artist Benjamin West (1730-1820) was left unfinished because he could not get British Commissioner and member of Parliament David Hartley to sit for the painting. Hartley had posed for individual portraits before, and had actually signed the treaty, but refused to sit for this painting because he said he was "too ugly." In all probability he was commanded by his superiors not to pose, as this loss to the American Colonies was difficult to imagine and no artistic reminders were needed.
