Sergeant Lawrence Everhart Chapter will conduct a Dedication at the Grave of Captain Peter Mantz.
CPT Peter Mantz was born in Pennsylvania in 1752, and moved early in his youth to Frederick County Maryland. He was the Captain of the 1st Maryland Battalion of the Flying Camp, reporting to the area of New Jersey to support Washington’s defense of New York in July 1776; and became a temporary Major from September to December as the British overwhelmed the American forces in and around New York, helping to cover the retreat of Washington’s Army as it raced across New Jersey to the Delaware River. He also served in the Maryland House of Delegates in 1782. He died in Frederick County Maryland in 1833.
